Sing Out – Community Choir Project
Sing Out workshops are open to absolutely everyone: those who have some experience of singing in a group, and those who have none; those who can ‘sing in tune’ and those who haven’t yet ‘found their voice’… and they’re for anyone aged between 14 and 80!
Workshops are normally held each term with the pattern being: four Tuesday evening sessions (7-30pm – 9-15pm) followed by an informal concert. All these take place at the Music Centre (based in The William Allitt School, Newhall, Swadlincote DE11 0TL).
They’re led by Richard Jeffries, a highly experienced music practitioner. He is known for his infectious enthusiasm, and an underlying belief that everyone should experience the joy of music. Joining him is Sara Kimber, an accomplished arranger and composer of community signing repertoire and director of our Music Centre’s Youth Choir.
Singers are provided with a booklet containing the songs and an individual practice CD with your own part, so that you can listen to the music at home. There is no expectation at all that you have to read music! The cost for the whole project is £25. Initial registration is at the first rehearsal from 7-15pm.
INFORMATION FOR THE AUTUMN TERM 2019 We’re absolutely delighted that Richard Jeffries has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship which will enable him to visit other countries in September and October to learn more about choral activities with young voices. This means that there will be no Sing Out project in the early autumn. However, everyone will be invited to join with our annual Christmas Community Choir project in late November, early December. More details later!
The Sing Out projects are administered through the South Derbyshire Music Centre, a registered charity and in conjunction with the Derbyshire Music Education Hub
